Jordan’s Class with Meta-Knowledge and Mushfake
Jordan’s class utilizes the combination of meta-knowledge and mush fake in their translation of “black English” to “white English”. The combination is described by Gee as the ability to use knowledge to adapt. “partial acquisition coupled with meta-knowledge and strategies to ‘make do'” (Gee 13). This is saying that you can use your knowledge to make do with what you have which is similar to how the kids translated to “white English”. The kids of Jordan’s class attempted to translate the “black English” to “white English” by using their already existing knowledge on standard English. “This is the translation into standard English” (Jordan. 365). This quote explains how the class used their prior knowledge to fabricate something using only what they have. The two quotes relate to each other because the quote from the kids in the class represents exactly what Gee was saying about using prior knowledge to solve problems and make sense of new material. The students of Jordan’s class used their meta-knowledge and mush fake techniques to translate the “black English” to “white English” make it into something that they understood better.
