Sample of Work (Bio 106)

Biology 106 is also known as Cell and Molecular Biology. This class is heavily lecture, online homework, and exam based therefore there are no notes or personal work which I can share. Therefore, this is a power point made by Professor Marlena Koper for Ch. 14 Biotechnology and Genomics. In this section we discusses DNA Cloning, Biotechnology Products, Gene Therapy, and Genomics. Genomes are a huger part of Bio 106 as they contain all of the genes which make up living organisms. I chose this chapter to display because not only is it one of the most interesting chapters studied in the class, it is also one of the most relatable to modern dilemmas which scientists face right now. What this chapter touches upon is the possibility for us as humans to go into DNA and change genes by splicing out harmful or unwanted genes and adding in different ones. The dilemma which spawns from this is the question of whether or not it is ethical to play god and change the outcome of an organism. Since the technology is there and this is something that is no longer impossible, the choice of how to use this discovery has become extremely important. From this chapter, I did not only learn how the processes of gene regulation through biotechnology are done, but I also learned more about the ethical dilemmas which scientists have to deal with in regards to new discoveries.
