Proper Quotation

Proper Quotation

Proper quotation sets up a adequate way to use quotations from other works to support your thesis. An important part about quoting is relating the quote you use back to your paper and not just using the quote as your explanation. “The introductory or lead-in claims should explain who is speaking and set up what the quotation says; the follow-up statements should explain why you consider the quotation to be important and what you take it to say” (Graff and Birkenstein 46). This quote relates back to my freshman year of high school when I was writing research paper on genetics, particularly Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). Here I learned the same thing the quote from the authors states, that when using a quote from another author, or researchers, work, you should explain how this quote ties back into your main idea. You need to be able to explain why the quote is useful and how it either relates or contradicts with your idea.
